Analyst Report: ALLE
1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Allegion rose 14.33% over the week to close at $178.98 on Friday 23 October, and the third-quarter report of 22 October accounts for most of it. The stock gained 11.02% that session on 2.10m shares (2,097,500), after adjusted EPS of $2.60 beat a consensus of about $2.50, revenue of $1.17bn beat about $1.14bn, and management raised full-year adjusted EPS guidance to $9.05 to $9.10 from $8.85 to $9.00 (company press release, TIKR, Investing.com). A BofA upgrade to Buy with a $200 target, plus target raises at JPMorgan and Evercore, added a further 1.39% on 23 October. Americas organic growth of 9.1% drove the quarter, while International slipped. The shares now sit within about 1.1% of the 52-week high of $181.03, and the S&P 500 fell 0.47% over the same period, so the move owes nothing to the market. Allegion now trades on 18.2 times forward earnings.
2. THE CATALYST
Allegion released third-quarter results before the open on Thursday 22 October. The reported figures, per the company press release, TIKR and Investing.com:
| Item | Result | Comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Adjusted EPS | $2.60 | About $2.50 consensus (4.0% beat) |
| Revenue | $1.17bn | About $1.14bn consensus |
| FY2026 adjusted EPS guidance | $9.05 to $9.10 | Prior $8.85 to $9.00 |
| Americas organic growth | 9.1% | Segment is about 80% of sales |
| Americas adjusted margin | 30.1% | |
| International organic sales | -0.2% | Adjusted margin down 40 bp to 13.9% |
Alphastreet uses a $2.55 consensus, which makes the beat 2.0%. Within the Americas, non-residential grew low double digits and residential mid-single digits. Full-year reported revenue growth guidance is now 9.5% to 10.5%, with organic growth of about 5% to 6% (BigGo, TIKR). Tariff refunds added $19.9m to reported operating income and were excluded from adjusted EPS and from guidance (company press release). Management credited "steady momentum in our demand generation engine."
Early intraday reads were mixed. One Investing.com headline mentioned a dip on guidance concerns before the same outlet reported a premarket gain, and Yahoo cited a 6.9% morning gain. The close of $176.52 settled the matter.
The second catalyst was analyst action. BofA's Rafe Jadrosich upgraded the stock to Buy from Neutral and lifted the target to $200 from $164, citing the Americas acceleration, a 2026 EPS estimate of $9.10 and a 2027 estimate of $10.09, and a higher target multiple of 15.5x 2027 EV/EBITDA against 13.5x (Investing.com). MarketBeat and Benzinga date the call 23 October, while Investing.com says it came "Wednesday morning". The exact date is unconfirmed, and the price it cites matches the 22 October close. JPMorgan raised its target to $183 from $170 and kept Neutral (MarketBeat). GuruFocus, a single auto-generated source, reports Evercore ISI lifting its Outperform target to $190 from $180.
3. COMPANY PROFILE
Allegion plc is an Industrials company in security and protection services, with a market cap of $15.22bn. It reports two segments, Allegion Americas and Allegion International, and sells door controls and exit devices, doors and glass systems, electronic security and access control products, and locks and key systems. It also provides services and software, including inspection, maintenance and repair for automatic entrance solutions. Peers in building products include Trane (TT), Johnson Controls (JCI), Carrier (CARR), Lennox (LII), Masco (MAS) and A. O. Smith (AOS).
In the third quarter the company returned about $120m through buybacks and $46m through dividends. Management said it expects to stay active in repurchases and finds them attractive at current valuation (press release, Benzinga transcript). The dividend yield is 1.23%. An Overly Door Company acquisition headline dated 5 October is unverified, as only the headline was seen.
4. DEEP DIVE ANALYSIS
Do fundamentals justify the move? Largely yes. The beat came from the segment that produces about 80% of sales, with margin of 30.1% and organic growth of 9.1%. The EPS guidance raise of $0.20 at the low end and $0.10 at the high end, together with a higher revenue outlook, resets the earnings base. BofA's 2027 EPS estimate of $10.09 puts the stock at about 17.7 times that figure at the latest close (inference from the brief and facts).
Valuation. TIKR noted the stock traded at about 17x forward earnings at the prior close, below its five-year average of 18x. The forward P/E is now 18.2, so the re-rating has closed that gap, and further upside depends on estimates rising rather than on the multiple.
Comparable episodes. The most recent reaction on record points the other way. After second-quarter results in late July, Simply Wall St recorded several target cuts and at least one downgrade, with targets trimmed toward about $164. The stock closed at $156.50 on 30 July and was at $157.03 on 20 October, so the third quarter reversed a period of scepticism. Evercore had raised its target to $180 from $175 on 8 October, before the print (MarketScreener).
Peers. Over the same period the building products group was mixed: TT -3.05%, JCI -1.04%, CARR +2.25%, LII +5.11%, MAS +4.31% and AOS +4.10%. Allegion's 14.33% gain exceeds every peer, which points to a company-specific cause. The brief found no sourced explanation for peer moves. TIKR described the gain as coming "in a down market", and BofA cited data-center demand and specification activity as supports for non-residential growth into 2027.
Bull case. Americas momentum continues into 2027, buybacks support earnings per share, and price targets of $183 to $200 from BofA, JPMorgan and (single source) Evercore sit above the current price.
Bear case. International organic sales fell 0.2% with margin down 40 bp. The latest close is already above MarketBeat's $173.56 average target, which is based on a mix of 4 Buy and 4 Hold ratings. MarketScreener shows a $178 average, and the two figures differ in date and method. Guidance excludes the tariff refunds, so reported operating income overstates the underlying run rate.
5. TECHNICAL SNAPSHOT
At $178.98 the shares trade well above the 50-day average of $156.20 and the 200-day average of $149.08, and about 1.1% below the 52-week high of $181.03 set on 12 February. The 52-week low is $124.05 from 20 May. The 22 October volume of 2,097,500 and the 23 October volume of 1,811,100 (1.49x the 50-session average of 1,216,122) show the buying continued a second day. The nearest support is the 22 October close of $176.52, and the Friday low of $176.02 sits just beneath it. The latest close is the highest in the daily table, so no resistance level shows there, though the 52-week high of $181.03 is the obvious ceiling.
6. RISK FACTORS
- International weakness persists, and TIKR flags a volume recovery there as the key test.
- The stock sits above the average analyst target, which leaves less room for upgrades to drive further gains.
- Guidance excludes tariff refunds, so adjusted figures differ from reported operating income.
- The late-July reaction showed that sentiment on the stock can turn quickly.
- Several brief items remain unconfirmed: the BofA call date, the Evercore $190 target, and the Overly Door acquisition.
Upcoming catalyst: the fourth-quarter report, expected in early 2027. The sources found no dated investor day, regulatory decision or vote.
7. ACTIONABLE OUTLOOK
Short term (1-2 weeks): The shares sit near the 52-week high after two heavy-volume sessions. Holding above $176.52 keeps the breakout intact, and a close above $181.03 would set a new 52-week high. A fall below $176.02 would open a test of the gap created on 22 October, where the stock closed at $159.00 the session before.
Medium term (1-3 months): Estimate revisions toward BofA's $9.10 for 2026 and $10.09 for 2027 would support the current multiple. With no company event dated before the fourth-quarter report, price action depends on analyst revisions and on updates to the Americas non-residential and data-center demand picture.
Long-term thesis: The quarter strengthens the Americas case and adds buyback support, while the International weakness stays unresolved. The thesis is improved, with fair value now more dependent on 2027 delivery than on re-rating. This is analysis, not personal financial advice.
