Analyst Report: CRWD
1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
CrowdStrike closed at $257.57 on Friday 23 October 2026, up 8.25% on the session while the S&P 500 fell 0.52%. The main driver was Evercore ISI's quarterly channel-partner survey, which reported firmer security budgets into year-end and named CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks as leading beneficiaries of AI-driven security spending (Yahoo Finance, 23 October). The shares had already recovered part of the prior week's drop on an expanded NVIDIA partnership and a sector rally that began on 21 October. A survey measures sentiment and does not report vendor results, so it supports the move without proving demand. Intraday reports on Friday showed gains well below the closing move, and the research found no headline that explains the late-session extension. Volume of 13,367,500 shares was 1.31x the 50-session average. At a forward P/E of 159.9 the shares already price in a great deal of growth.
2. THE CATALYST
Evercore ISI published its channel-partner survey on 23 October (Investing.com, TIKR and 24/7 Wall St., all 23 October). Partners reported healthy pipelines and spending focused on data and AI, identity and cloud. Evercore flagged Okta for the strongest pipeline momentum among the vendors surveyed. Deutsche Bank also called CrowdStrike a standout AI growth beneficiary after meetings with enterprise customers and venture capitalists, with no rating or target change (Investing.com, 23 October).
Earlier sessions set the stage:
| Date | Close | Move | Event (source) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 16 Oct | $227.39 | -7.02% | Volume 13,859,700; the brief gives no cause |
| 21 Oct | $239.34 | +5.26% | Expanded NVIDIA AI agent security partnership; PHP Foundation disclosed critical flaws found with AI's help (TIKR; Barron's) |
| 22 Oct | $237.94 | -0.58% | Mizuho raised target to $275 from $250, Outperform maintained, citing early channel checks on Falcon Guardian (GuruFocus; Yahoo Finance) |
| 23 Oct | $257.57 | +8.25% | Evercore survey; Deutsche Bank comments |
TIKR dated the start of the group rally to Wednesday 21 October. The timing of the NVIDIA announcement is slightly unclear, since the Business Wire link TIKR cites is dated 20 October. The Mizuho upgrade came on a day the stock fell, so it was not the trigger for Friday. The research found no headline timed after the close on Friday, and later items are recaps.
3. COMPANY PROFILE
CrowdStrike (Technology, Software - Infrastructure) sells a cloud-delivered security platform on a subscription basis. It covers endpoints, cloud workloads, identity and data, and has added AI-powered workflow automation and protection for generative AI workloads. Competitors named in the brief include Palo Alto Networks, Microsoft and Zscaler. Okta competes in identity.
Second-quarter FY27 results on 26 August showed revenue of $1.47bn, up 25.6% year over year, and adjusted EPS of $0.31, ahead of estimates. Net new ARR was a record and total ARR reached $5.84bn (Blockonomi, 27 August). Management raised FY27 revenue guidance to $5.99bn-$6.01bn and guided third-quarter sales to $1.523bn-$1.529bn. CEO George Kurtz said AI Detection and Response grew more than 79-fold in three quarters since launch, without giving a dollar figure (TIKR, 22 October). Market capitalisation is $263.73bn.
4. DEEP DIVE ANALYSIS
Do fundamentals justify the move? The survey adds no new company numbers. The last reported results were strong, and the survey is consistent with them, but it is a single channel-partner read. The 8.25% gain is therefore a re-rating of sentiment around a theme, with fundamentals unchanged on the day. The stock stands 127.14% higher year to date and 39.06% above its close of 30 July.
Peers. Palo Alto rose 7.22% on the same survey and the PHP flaw theme. Fortinet gained 4.05% and Twilio 3.22%, while ServiceNow added 1.25%, Microsoft 0.66% and Gen Digital fell 0.04%. The cybersecurity ETF rose far less than single names, according to 24/7 Wall St., which suggests buying concentrated in the two companies the survey highlighted. Palo Alto traded at about 85x forward earnings before the move (TIKR).
Comparable episode. After the August results the stock jumped about 20% on record net new ARR and a raised outlook (Yahoo Finance/Motley Fool; Trading Tips, 27 August). Friday's move was smaller and rested on sentiment alone.
Bull case. Budgets are firming into year-end, AI security demand is a stated management theme, and Mizuho's channel checks on Falcon Guardian point the same way. The brief also lists KeyBanc at $265 (from $245) and Citi at $295 (from $260), but the page is undated, so the timing of those changes is unconfirmed.
Bear case. NVIDIA named 10 other security vendors on the same architecture, including Microsoft, Palo Alto and Zscaler, which weakens the sole-partner angle (TIKR, 22 October). Amazon made AWS Continuum for code vulnerabilities generally available on 22 October (TIKR). Kurtz sold 20,000 shares on 19 and 20 October under a 10b5-1 plan adopted in January. Reports that CrowdStrike is in advanced talks to buy Orion Security for about $500 million come from Calcalist on 12 October; neither company has confirmed them and no deal has been signed. TIKR puts the next-twelve-month normalised P/E at about 169x, a different definition from the 159.9 forward P/E in the facts.
5. TECHNICAL SNAPSHOT
The close of $257.57 sits above the 50-day average of $234.80 and well above the 200-day average of $163.61, and below the 52-week high of $286.99 set on 6 October. The 52-week low is $85.68. The stock closed near the session high of $257.91 after opening at $239.29. Volume of 13,367,500 shares compares with a 50-session average of 10,203,310, and the heaviest recent session was 16 October at 13,859,700 on the sell-off. Nearest support is the 14 October close of $249.29, and nearest resistance is the 13 October close of $261.21.
6. RISK FACTORS
- Sentiment reversal: the move rests on a survey, and a stock up 13.27% in five sessions has little cushion against a fade.
- Valuation: a forward P/E of 159.9 leaves little room for any disappointment in growth.
- Competition: the NVIDIA architecture is open to many vendors, and hyperscalers are pushing into code security.
- Insider sales and unconfirmed M&A: the Kurtz sales continue to draw attention, and an Orion deal at about $500 million would add integration questions.
- Dated catalysts: Palo Alto's fiscal first-quarter report is expected in November and TIKR calls it the next test of the AI-security narrative. Okta's next report has no date found. CrowdStrike's fiscal third-quarter results are listed for 1 December (EPS estimate $0.31, revenue estimate $1.53bn), though TIKR says the company has not confirmed the date.
7. ACTIONABLE OUTLOOK
Short term (1-2 weeks): The stock opened the next session well above its 50-day average with a sentiment-driven gain to digest. The $249.29 close marks the first support, and $261.21 the first resistance. Further gains need fresh sector news, since the survey has now been absorbed.
Medium term (1-3 months): Palo Alto's November report and CrowdStrike's 1 December results decide whether the survey's optimism shows up in numbers. Third-quarter revenue guidance of $1.523bn-$1.529bn sets the bar, and net new ARR is the figure most likely to move the shares.
Long term: The thesis is unchanged by Friday's session. Record ARR, raised guidance and AI-related demand support it, while the valuation and the widening field of AI-security competitors set its limits. This is analysis and not personal financial advice.
