Analyst Report: HAS
1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Hasbro rose 19.12% over the week to a close of $117.23 on October 22, 2026, a new 52-week high, and the catalyst was its fiscal Q3 2026 report released before the open on October 20. Revenue rose 15% to $1.6 billion, Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming revenue rose 31%, and management raised 2026 guidance and doubled the share repurchase target (Hasbro press release, October 20). The stock gained 11.20% on the day of the report and added 4.09% and 2.83% in the next two sessions, for which the research found no separate catalyst. The business now leans heavily on Magic: The Gathering, which supports the margin gains and also concentrates risk. The shares sit well above both moving averages after a 35.04% gain over 20 sessions, so the valuation has absorbed much of the good news.
2. THE CATALYST
Hasbro published fiscal Q3 results before the open on October 20 (Hasbro press release, October 20). The key figures, as reported by the company and TIKR:
| Item | Result |
|---|---|
| Revenue | $1.6 billion, up 15% |
| Adjusted EPS | $2.90 |
| Reported diluted EPS | $2.77 |
| Wizards and Digital Gaming revenue | Up 31% |
| Magic: The Gathering revenue | Up 34%, above $600 million in a quarter for the first time |
| Wizards operating margin | 49% |
| Consumer Products revenue | Up 4% |
| Operating profit | $517 million |
| Adjusted operating profit | $541 million, up 52% |
The results include about $55 million of tariff refunds (Hasbro press release). TIKR says adjusted operating profit still grew by more than a third without the refunds, so the 52% headline flatters the underlying rate.
Guidance moved up as well. Constant-currency revenue growth for 2026 is now 7% to 9%, from 5% to 7%. Adjusted operating margin guidance is 27% to 28%, from 25% to 26% (Hasbro press release). TIKR reports that the adjusted EBITDA outlook rose by $125 million at both ends of the range. The company doubled its share repurchase target.
Session by session, the stock closed at $98.49 on October 19, then at $109.52 on October 20 (+11.20%, volume 8,008,800), $114.00 on October 21 (+4.09%) and $117.23 on October 22 (+2.83%). The October 15 gain of 3.09% and the October 19 volume of 3,689,600 came before the report, and the research found no sourced explanation for either.
3. COMPANY PROFILE
Hasbro is a toy and game company in the Consumer Cyclical sector, with a market cap of $16.53bn. It sells trading cards and collectibles, action figures, creative play products, dolls, preschool toys and licensed consumer goods across the United States, Europe, Canada, Latin America, Australia and Asia. Wizards of the Coast, which makes Magic: The Gathering, is the profit engine, with a 49% operating margin in the quarter.
Q2 2026, reported on July 21, had already raised the outlook and passed $500 million of quarterly Magic revenue (Hasbro press release, July 21). That quarter also carried a one-time $56.4 million non-cash impairment tied to refocusing the Digital Games portfolio (Hasbro 10-Q). In Q1 the company issued $400 million of notes to repay its November 2026 maturities in full (Hasbro 8-K, April 23). CEO Chris Cocks expects a strong finish to 2026 and continued growth in 2027.
4. DEEP DIVE ANALYSIS
Do fundamentals justify the move? The guidance raise gives a direct basis for higher earnings estimates. A 15% revenue gain, a Wizards margin of 49% and a two-point lift to the adjusted operating margin range all point the same way. The stock trades at a forward P/E of 17.3 and a trailing P/E of 21.0, with a 2.84% dividend yield. TIKR put the forward multiple near 16.2x before the move and near 18x after it, which indicates the market has paid for part of the upgrade.
Quality of the beat. The $55 million of tariff refunds inflates the headline profit growth. TIKR's figure of more than a third without them is the better guide to the underlying rate.
Concentration. The company told investors that sales and profits increasingly depend on Magic, so a weak year for the game would hurt (TIKR). Consumer Products grew only 4%.
Peers. Consumer Discretionary peers moved between -2.83% (BKNG) and +6.32% (HD) over the same period, with TSLA +3.35%, NKE +3.18%, MCD +4.18% and AMZN -1.72%. The S&P 500 fell 1.04% over the move period. Hasbro's 19.12% gain therefore stands well apart from the sector, which points to a company-specific cause. The research could not open an article explaining peer moves.
Analysts. A headline on TradingView from October 21 reported a 12-month target of $119, about 9% above the prior close. The firm, the prior target and the rating are unsourced. TIKR counts 14 analysts but the rating breakdown was not retrieved.
Comparable episodes. The July guidance raise also came from Magic strength, though the research found no sourced share price reaction to compare.
Bull case: Magic keeps compounding, margins hold in the 27% to 28% range, and buybacks add to earnings per share. Bear case: the stock has priced in the upgrade, profit depends on one franchise, and tariff refunds will not recur.
5. TECHNICAL SNAPSHOT
The $117.23 close is the highest in the daily table and sits just below the session high of $117.25, which is also the 52-week high set on October 22. The price is well above the 50-day average of $93.49 and the 200-day average of $90.52, and 74.1% above the 52-week low of $67.33. Volume peaked at 8,008,800 on the report day and has declined since, to 3,429,300 on October 22, still 1.87x the 50-session average of 1,833,686. Rising prices on fading but elevated volume show buying that continued after the first reaction.
6. RISK FACTORS
- Dependence on Magic for sales and profit, as the company itself flagged.
- Tariff refunds of about $55 million flattered the quarter and do not recur.
- A gain of 35.04% in 20 sessions leaves the shares exposed to profit-taking.
- A broad market that fell 1.21% on the last session.
- Digital Games restructuring, which produced the $56.4 million impairment in Q2.
Upcoming: the Star Trek Magic set is due in November 2026, the last Magic set of the year (TIKR). The research did not confirm a date for the next earnings release, so the investor relations calendar should be checked.
7. ACTIONABLE OUTLOOK
Short term (1-2 weeks): The stock has run three sessions in a row on fading volume, and the $119 target headline sits only about 1.5% above the last close. Consolidation near $114 to $117 is the base case, and the October 21 close of $114.00 is the nearest support.
Medium term (1-3 months): The Star Trek set launch in November is the first test of whether Magic momentum carries into the fourth quarter. Delivery on the raised guidance, particularly the 27% to 28% margin range, determines whether estimates keep rising.
Long term: The thesis has strengthened on better margins, higher guidance and a larger buyback, and it now rests more heavily on one franchise. This is analysis only and not personal financial advice.
